Geffery's Fields

A beautiful almshouse in Basingstoke

Geffery’s Fields is a sheltered housing scheme owned by the Sir Robert Geffery’s Almshouse Trust and supported by the Ironmongers’ Company. 

It was founded under the will of Sir Robert Geffery in 1704 who left money to the Ironmongers’ Company to build almshouses for the poor.

THE ALMSHOUSE

​Geffery’s Fields is an almshouse located in Basingstoke, Hampshire. It has 52 newly refurbished one-bedroom flats (16 for single people and 36 for couples).

It has a 24-hour emergency call system and support from an on-site Warden during the day. 

Residents can enjoy:
 

  • Lounge/garden room

  • TV lounge

  • Library/hobbies room

  • Laundry/ironing room

  • Extensive landscape gardens

  • Allotments

  • A visitor's flat for guests

MODERN FLATS

Each single or double bedroom flat contains:​

  • Bedroom

  • Kitchen (fitted with an oven, hob, fridge freezer)

  • Sitting room

  • Wetroom

  • TV aerial

  • Carpet throughout

ELIGIBILITY

 

To be eligible, you have to be:
​

  • Aged 60 or above, with income less than 3 x basic state pension (for a single person) or 5 x basic state pension (for a couple) and have insufficient savings to buy accommodation in the Basingstoke area

  • Be able to look after yourself and your flat (no cooking, domestic help or nursing is provided)


Please note that residents are not permitted to have dogs and cats in their flat.

CHARGES


Our current fees are £783.06 per month for a single flat and £876.83 per month for a double bedroom flat.​​

​

Please note that residents pay for electricity, gas, council tax, internet and a TV licence (free for any residents over the age of 75). A concessionary TV licence is available to residents under the age of 75.

HOW TO APPLY


In the first instance, please contact the Warden on duty to make an appointment to view Geffery’s Fields by calling 01256 961 640 (Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm).

​

If you wish to proceed with an application the Warden will give you an application form to complete and return. You will need to include details of your age, reason for applying, annual income and details of assets e.g. savings, property.

 

Once we have received your completed form, we will invite you to a meeting to discuss your application.

 

If your application has been successful, we will notify you and invite you back to offer a suitable empty flat. If we are full, we will add you to our waiting list (vacancies are allocated on the basis of need and you may not necessarily be offered the next available flat).

 

Please note that following the recent refurbishment of Geffery's Fields, we have a number of empty flats and there is no waiting list.
